Straczynski Memorabilia Auction
As Official Keeper (no B5 pun intended) of all news related to JMS and Babylon 5, I thought I’d make sure you heard that Joe Straczynski is auctioning a large portion of his personal memorabilia collection on eBay. These are items from the shows he has worked on. Most will be from Babylon 5, but there will be stuff stretching back to his He-Man days. The items will be appearing occasionally under eBay user ID babylon5auctions over the next several weeks.
Don’t bid against me!
Water on Mars
Check out this amazing photo of Water on Mars from NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day site! Wow, this picture is super clear — there can’t be much doubt now that there is water on Mars!
Hitchhiker’s Guide Movie Trailer
The new trailer for The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is now available on the Amazon.com web site. Zaphod seems to have only one head, but there is a very quick SFX shot that appears to show their concession to Zaphod’s original description. As early costume designs showed, Marvin continues to be a 3-foot tall Stormtrooper with a globe on his head. I will reserve judgement.
The release date is April 29, 2005.
Update: Amazon replaced the Macromedia Flash player with streaming trailers for Windows Media Player, both high bandwidth and low badwidth.
Jittlov
This link to some current pictures of Mr. Jittlov was posted in the alt.fan.mike-jittlov newsgroup, with the description “I took ‘em, I posted them. With permission.”. I thought the Gunters might be interested in seeing them, and figured at least some of you didn’t keep up with that newsgroup.
Death Star Prototype?
LUKE: Look at him. He’s heading for that small moon.
HAN: I think I can get him before he gets there… he’s almost in range.
BEN: That’s no moon! It’s a space station.
HAN: It’s too big to be a space station.
LUKE: I have a very bad feeling about this!
Sinister Ducks
Do any of you remember the Flexi-Disc that was in some Fantagraphics book or other years ago? Featuring The March of the Sinister Ducks? A bizarre side project featuring David J (of Love and Rockets) and Alan Moore (yes, that Alan Moore)?
Well, there’s now a Flash video for the song. And Neil Gaiman has an MP3 available as well.
Darth Tater
Could this just be the coolest Star Wars toy ever? Darth Tater
Slingshot Santa!
This is cool, and just in time for the holidays. My furthest sling was 314.2
Mira Furlan on Lost
I totally enjoy ABC’s new show “Lost”.
Well, imagine my surprise yesterday when I tuned in and saw Mira Furlan on the show. For those in the know, Mira was an integral part of the best Science Fiction series of all time, Babylon 5. In that series, we all witnessed the wonderful talent of this classically trained actress. Since that time, I have been wondering when we’d see her again.
Well, no more waiting. She has surfaced. And what a wonderful job she did yesterday. I hope she remains a recurring character.
